A new rental car service that’s going to roll out in the Pacific Northwest is being dubbed the “Fully Autonomous Car Rental.”
The company will operate out of Maui, and you can expect to pay $200 per month, which includes an on-demand payment option, as well as unlimited car rentals to/from the West.
The company’s website also indicates the car rental service will include “automated car-sharing.”
“We’ve got some great partners in Hawaii, we’ve got an amazing network in Maui and now we’re looking to expand that,” said Michael Schoepfer, CEO of the Maui-based company.
“We’re very excited to be able to be in Mauihi and see the benefits of fully autonomous cars.”
The company is also going to be partnering with the Mauihikiki Police Department and the City of Mauihiki.
The car rental company is hoping to eventually roll out to other parts of the West coast.
“It’s kind of a dream to see the whole of our region become completely autonomous, but we’re excited to work with Mauihio and the Mauikiki City to make that a reality,” Schoepsfer said.
The company currently operates in the Mauiwi, Maui Valley, Oahu, and Kauai areas.
The city of Mauai is currently planning on opening a new office building to house the company, and they are looking to bring other Mauihine offices to the area.
The Mauihikai Police Department has been working with Uber on the autonomous car rental program, and the company is planning to offer the service to the city.
