New York City is home to some of the most expensive car rentals in the world, according to data from car rental firm HNL.
New York, a city that is home most of the US’s oil refinery and has the highest concentration of car owners in the country, ranked second in terms of average rental rates.
The city was also No. 1 in terms a cost per mile of a car.
The cheapest car rental in the city is a $2,500 Nissan Maxima for a distance of about 100 miles, according the rental website.
The car rental website said HNL, a New York-based company, used a proprietary algorithm to determine how much a car would cost in New York.
The site did not give an exact cost per car, saying it did not calculate any per-mile rate.
A car rental app called CarRental.com also listed the average rental price for a 2015 Nissan Leaf for $2.2 million.
The price of a rental car is also higher in the Bay Area, according with data from AutoTrader.com, a website that provides a tool to help shoppers find a car rental.
That service costs $50 per month, the site said.
